In 2024 alone, Madagascar lost 200,000 acres of forest and, along with it, countless wildlife. Wildlife Madagascar’s Plant a Million Trees Campaign is planting the right trees in the right places, ensuring that lemurs, bats, and countless other species have thriving habitats for years to come. With four dedicated nurseries and a unique seed collection method (yes, we’re talking about a lemur and bat poop!), together, we’ll reclaim damaged habitats and create forest corridors that reconnect fragmented landscapes. Every tree we plant is a step toward a greener, wilder Madagascar.

Why Reforestation Matters
Madagascar’s forests are home to an array of unique species found nowhere else on the planet. However, rampant deforestation has led to habitat loss, pushing many species, especially lemurs, towards extinction. By restoring these forests, we not only revive ecosystems but also ensure that lemurs and other wildlife have a thriving habitat.

Our Approach

Native Tree Nurseries
We operate four nurseries across our field sites, cultivating native tree species crucial for lemur and bat habitats.

Seed Collection
By collecting seeds from lemur and bat feces, we ensure the propagation of tree species integral to lemur and bat diets, fostering a balanced ecosystem.

Community Involvement
Engaging local communities in planting and maintenance not only provides employment but also instills a sense of ownership and responsibility toward conservation.
