Education is one of the most powerful conservation tools available, and this World Environment Day, that lesson came to life in the classroom. Students at EPP Befingotra, a school adjacent to Wildlife Madagascar’s ASSR field site, took part in a day of activities focused on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH).

The day’s activities were hands-on and practical. Students worked together to clean their school grounds, learned proper handwashing techniques, and watched an educational program about cholera prevention. These simple but essential lessons help build lifelong habits that protect children’s health while reinforcing the connection between a clean environment and a healthy community.
A special thank you to Wildlife Madagascar Education Specialist Vanessa Olinda for bringing this program to life. Programs like this reflect a core part of Wildlife Madagascar’s mission: that protecting forests and wildlife goes hand in hand with supporting the health and wellbeing of the communities who share that landscape. Seeing children actively engaged in learning healthy habits and caring for their environment is a wonderful reminder that small lessons today can create long-term positive change, for both people and the wild places they call home.
